Life After Sam’s Place
We are so honored to provide an update about our five young adults who have finished their studies and are starting life on their own!
Irene studied tailoring and dress making at St. Joseph’s Technical and Vocational College for the Deaf. Sam’s Place helped her start her sewing business in the city of Homabay. We committed to supporting her business for a year to help her get started. Already eight months through that commitment, we’re confident that Irene will be able to stand on her own even before the year is complete!
Ruth also studied tailoring and dress making at St. Joseph’s. Sam’s Place helped her start her sewing business in the city of Rongo, which is about three miles from Sam’s Place. With the same commitment of support as Irene, Ruth is on track to be on her own in just a few months!
Elphas, Dickson and Hesbon studied carpentry and joinery at St. Joseph’s. Elphas and Dickson started their continuing education first and since graduating, they have trained under a mason. They are busy doing house construction. They are preparing to move to a woodshop, where the young men will start a furniture business. Hesbon recently joined them. Once they move into their shop, Sam’s Place will support them for a year to help them get started!
We are so very proud of these young men and women! They have come so far from when they first arrived as young children with little to no language and a bleak future. Due to your support and pouring into these young children, they have flourished into confident, skilled and kind young adults with amazing futures ahead of them! They are our first group to graduate, and they have paved the way for many more to follow!
